Ausstellung vom 29. Juli bis 12. August in der Park-Kultur

On February 24, 2022, with russian full-scale nvasion of Ukraine, began a terrifying new phase of the war, which actually lasted at least nine years. The resistance continues. And right now, while active hostilities are still going on in the territory of Ukraine, we are opening an exhibition RECORDS OF RESISTANCE dedicated to Ukrainian art practices during the war. The exhibition is a selection of works by participants of the BIRUCHIY art residency.
The BIRUCHIY residency has been taking place in the Zaporizhia region on the coast of the Azov Sea since 2006. Artists from all over Ukraine and abroad regularly participated in the project, making it a platform for unique interactions, and the exchange of experience and information. Since last year, the original location of the residency is in the occupied territory between Donbas and Crimea.
Last summer the residency took place in the Zakarpattia region of Ukraine. It united artists in a single creative process that contained sharp contemporary reflections and strategic thinking and
gave birth to new collaborations and visions of a shared future. In September, the exhibition was shown in Warsaw, and in February, on the anniversary of the invasion — in Oberhausen. Now the exhibition is presented in Düsseldorf.
The show includes pieces created during the invasion: painting, graphics, installations, sculpture, photo and video documentation of events in Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lysychansk, and other Ukrainian cities, partially or even completely wiped off the face of the earth. It also contains some pieces created earlier that survived occupation in Bucha where the storage of the residency was located. The works of artists become both witnesses and vidence of crimes as well as proof of resilience and strength.
